The “generations” are descriptions for the various models Apple TV box (connectable to a TV). It is not about Mac, iPhone, or the Apple TV app.

Find your Apple TV model number - Apple Support

If you have an Apple TV+ subscription, then you can view the special Apple TV+ shows (“Apple Originals”) in the Apple TV app on your various devices, including on Mac, iPhone, and select smart TVs. Navigate to the tv+ tab in the sidebar to see an overview of the Apple TV+ shows.

For the Apple TV box in combination with Apple TV+, you’ll need a 3rd generation model or later [A1427 or later].

On Mac (macOS Catalina 10.15 or later), you have to additionally sign in to the TV app, through the in-app Account menu, using your Apple ID account.

On iPhone (iOS 10.2 or later), as a single-user device, you should already be signed in with your Apple ID account, and the TV app takes its authentication from that.

On select smart TVs and select TV-connected streaming devices, find the Apple TV app (if pre-installed), or download it to the device from the on-device app repository (“App Store”). Next, sign in through the in-app Settings with your Apple ID account credentials.

If you have further issues, then please elaborate.
