Saving location for Screenshots and Screenrecordings on Sonoma

Ever since updating to Sonoma, Screenshots and Screenrecordings are not saving to my chosen location. They're saving to Desktop and cluttering it. I've trying setting up and changing the default location multiple times from options, but they are still saved to desktop. This was not an issue on the same machine before I updated to Sonoma, the date when this started happening matches the date I updated OS

in your recording options, do you have "Remember Last Selection" enabled?

if not, saving the recording will revert to the default location after each recording.

but I also feel that I should add, I have, in the past, encountered issues with longer recordings stopping / not saving unexpectedly whenever I have selected anything other than "desktop" as my "save to" location. this has been especially true when "save to" is set to an external drive. so I now use "desktop" as my "save to" every time and afterwards I move them to my desired location manually. I haven't had an issue since.

Good work just the same my friend

thanks. :)

CMM or other like Disk Cleaner worth exploring with OP ?

possibly? also maybe an etrecheck report?

to HypatiaKovalevskayaSklodowska, i'm thinking you should download and run the free version of EtreCheck so we can see if you have some software installed that is causing your issue. make sure you give "full disk access" to etrecheck. Learn how to use it by reading Using EtreCheck. if you need help interpreting the report, you can see how to post the report here by reading How to use the Add Text Feature When Posting Large Amounts of Text, i.e. an Etrecheck Report. and it automatically obscures sensitive things (like serial numbers) so you don't have to worry about sharing the report here.

Work with use here, is you please

Where is your " chosen location " located ?

There are locations within the Home Folder ( User Account Folder ) and there are areas of the Operating System which are Read and Write Protected like the root of the drive

Hi, thank you for replying!

you're welcome.

I do have this option checked. I try to save inside a folder in documents. then when that didn't work, i tried a folder in desktop. neither works

sorry, I'm stumped. when "remember last selection" is selected, it is supposed to use the same location every time. I'm unsure why yours keeps reverting to "desktop". you may need to wait for input from someone else that may be able to explain the "why".
