Needs Permission to Download to external drive

I've had the problem crop up before but can't seem to resolve it this time. I want to download an image from the web and it won't let me download to my external drive where my Dropbox folder is. I checked Privacy & Security and the Full Disk Access is toggled on. When I go to Files and Folders however it seems to be grayed even though it says it has Full Disk Access. Same is the case for my Adobe programs. What do I need to do?

imac, Sonoma 14.2.1, everything is updated

Full Disk Acces is granted to each app individually. Have you set this for your web browser, Dropbox & each of your Adobe programs?

With the Finder, can you copy files from your Desktop to your external drive? Can you save to the external drive from any other apps?

Have you checked the permissions on your external drive? If it is Read Only for "Everyone" and you are logged into a standard user account, you wouldn't be able to write to the drive.

You could set "Ignore ownership on this rolume" for the external drive, but then you are, well, ignoring ownership & permissions. (Which you may not want to do.)

Well the problem seems to be fixed. I had had no problem saving to the drive from other apps. All permissions were read and write. I did turn on full disk access to Google Chrome as that was the only thing I could think to try. I guess that was the issue? Not sure how it was turned off. Would the latest system update have done that? Hopefully it continues to work.
