Trying to sign in to Google email account on Mail after changing password

I changed password on a Google account. Mail wants me to confirm new password. It says I need to open browser - I do, Safari - and enter password. Tells me to confirm in Google app on phone - I say it's me. Then I get the message:

"400. That's an error.

The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That's all we know."

I tried other method to confirm (text message code), but same end result.

Any help would be appreciated.

other gmail user have stated to use chrome to sign into your account.
