MacBook Air password input

When I open the laptop, it looks normal, the cursor is blinking in the password box, but nothing happens when I input the password. It was working fine but when I took a break, it would not open.

I have seen this issue only with macOS 14.x Sonoma. AFAIK, there is currently no fix for the issue, so we will need to wait for another macOS hoping Apple resolves this bug with Sonoma.

Assuming the keyboard is not at fault (try using an external keyboard), then you may need to force a power off of the laptop by holding the power button down until the laptop completely powers off. I personally like to press the Caps Lock key so the Caps Lock LED is lit so when you will know when the laptop has fully powered off when the Caps Lock LED goes out.

FYI, it is usually best to always provide the exact model of the device and version of OS being used when asking for assistance online since there are so many different models and versions of macOS. You can get this information by clicking the Apple menu & selecting "About This Mac". Or you can enter the system serial number on the check coverage page here:

Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support

If you are using macOS 14.4 Sonoma with the most recent update patches, then you can provide Apple with product feedback here (Apple will not respond):

Feedback - macOS - Apple

If my assumption of macOS 14.x Sonoma is not correct, then please provide more details. Has this always been an issue? If not, then what has recently changed with this laptop?
