No Sound notifications for message on my iphone

I do have an iwatch. Will this affect not getting sound notifications on my iPhone?

Yes, if you have an watch message alerts will sound on the watch if you are wearing it and have wrist detection enabled. This is so you aren’t constantly annoyed by alerts from 2 different devices for the same message. It’s only for messages; phone calls will sound on both.

I would rather hear a sound alert for messages from my iPhone. Can I do something to make that happen? BTW, I don’t hear any sounds from my watch but I do feel vibrations. The only sound I need from my watch is the telephone call alert.
