How to copy .mp3 files to iTunes

MacBook OS X 10.6.8 - a fine-working antique which does everything I need

  • Have a dozen .mp3 files on my desktop
  • Attempting to add to MUSIC in iTunes
  • FILE: Add To Library
  • Highlight desktop files
  • Click OPEN
  • According to everything I've found on-line, these files are then supposed to appear in the MUSIC library in iTunes
  • Not so

  • So I attempt to highlight the desktop files and drag them into MUSIC
  • Nothing

Any information to help resolve this? Appreciated.

Seattle,

Right-click the file and choose Open With > Music (or iTunes).

  • If the file is compatible, it will be added to the library and start playing.
  • If the file is not compatible, it will "error silently," i.e., do nothing.

The "not compatible" case can occur if the MP3 is corrupted, or was obtained from an invalid source such as a YouTube conversion, or is not actually an MP3.
