iphone won't go to safari...jumps back to home screen

This just started today. I have restarted it several times. Closed all the tabs (I think) and deleted a lot of stored data.

I am currently updating the OS to 17.3.1

Force restart, holding that third button press until you see the Apple logo, continuing to hold that third button press past any sliders that might appear.

In iPhone Settings > Safari, remove any Safari extensions.

Also remove any add-on first-few-hops VPN clients, or any add-on “security” apps, or similar, as well.

Try again.

Thanks. I worked with Apple support tech online and I eventually had to go in to

settings>>me>>icloud>>turn off safari. Then I cleared all the website cache and data.

I finally got control of safari again. And I also installed Chrome to test it and Chrome worked fine. So it was particular to safari.

Go to Settings/Safari and tap Clear History & Website Data.
