Third party screen on new iphone

I purchased an iPhone 13 Pro Max 256GB through Qantas marketplace. The display started having some issues so I took it into Apple who approved a warranty repair. During the repair they identified the display was a non-genuine display. They said this voids the warranty and said if I wanted it fixed I had to pay $549. Apple advised their is no chance it came that way, but I know that's false as I bought the phone brand new and have not replaced the display. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, did they manage to resolve it with Apple? Thanks

iPhone 13, iOS 17

There are phones that have been refurbished by Apple and there are phones that have not been refurbished by Apple.

Phones refurbished by Apple use 100% genuine Apple parts and come with a new battery.

Phones not refurbished by Apple may or may not use genuine Apple parts. In some cases, the company refurbishing the phone cannot even buy genuine parts from Apple because they have not met Apple's requirements.

The model number can sometimes reveal more about the history of the phone.

I am not clear on whether the phone is working or not. If it is.....

Tap Settings > General > About > Model Number and post back with that info and we'll see if we can run some checks using that information.

Unfortunately, we need the actual model number.....8 characters....a mix of numbers and letters.

There are codes in the model number that indicate whether the phone was new, refurbished by Apple or refurbished by another company.

Everything that you have told us so far indicates that you likely bought a refurbished phone (that might have been promoted as new) that had been remanufactured by a company other than Apple.

There are no other ways to explain a 3rd party screen installed on an iPhone. There is no way...and I repeat no way....that a phone purchased directly from Apple would have a 3rd party part installed on the device no matter whether the phone was new or refurbished.

I’ve spoken to Qantas at length who have been told by Apple that all phones are subjected to testing and it didn’t come that way. It definitely did as I opened the box and it’s been in my possession since. Incredibly frustrating to be told something you know is false. I’m guessing it was a refurbished phone and wasn’t checked properly but I’m getting nothing from apple or qantas.

If we could get the real model number of the phone......for example will look something like this 5M33K86/4.....it would really help.

In the example above the first digit "5" indicates that the phone was refurbished, but not by Apple.

If the phone was refurbished by Apple, the model number would NOT start with a number....would start with a letter......but not an "M". "M" would be a product that was originally sold as new, not refurbished.

I purchased an iPhone 12 Pro from T-Mobile, and recently to it to the Apple Store to have the battery replaced. When I picked it up, they said everything was good…except they couldn’t warranty the 3rd party display??? I said I don’t have a third party display…but he assured me it was a 3rd party display in my device. I bought it new at T-Mobile and never had a repair…how is that possible?
