Has Excel been activated or authorized for use on the new Mac? Usually you will see a bar with a message about the Microsoft app needing a license in order to save files. This license may not have been transferred to the new Mac. You will need to check with Microsoft on how to activate Office on another computer....plus if you are no longer using Office on the older Mac, then you should deauthorize that computer from the Office suite to free up a license.
