In the files app and on my iPad directory I have a pages folder with the pages icon on it. I created a folder for numbers but it has no icon. Is there a way to get the numbers icon on it?

Folders that you see with an overlaid App icon is an App Library folder* - created by the App itself - the icon indicating the App to which the Library relates.
(*) not to be confused with the App Library accessed from the last Home Screen, or the Home Screen Dock
There does appear to be a bug in iPadOS 17 whereby the Numbers App Library folder loses its icon. As yet I have been unable to recreate the Numbers folder with the associated icon restored.
