How to clear virus from Mac

Recently I've been getting notifications saying there's a virus on my Mac, but when I click "show" on the notification it leads me to another tab which just gives me an "error" and I'm getting kinda scared. I want to scan my Mac for a virus but I can't figure out how or what to do.
