How to see all your highlights in Books app on iPad?

According to the Apple Support page, "To see all of your highlights, tap the page, tap the Menu button, tap Bookmarks & Highlights, then tap Highlights. Tap a highlight to go to that location in the book." Annotate books in the Books app on iPad - Apple Support

But when I tap the menu button, the following screen shows up. All the pages are shown, not the highlights. There is a link for bookmarks, as the Support page describes. But there is no "Highlights" link. Suggestions?

Maybe this has to with the format of the book. Some books are .pdfs I opened with the books app so they would be available on different devices. I'm not sure what format books from other sources are in. I know that when I open a pdf file on the Books app on my mac, it opens in Preview, and there's a command to see all highlights in the sidebar. But on my iPad, I don't see any way to see a list of highlights or show only highlights. I think the Apple Support page is factually wrong, at least for pdf books. They need to fix the iPad software or at least correct the Apple Support page.
