Connect Incompatible Mini DV Camera to iOS El Cap I have a 15 year old Panasonic AG-DVC30P camcorder. I bought a 400 to 800 Firewire cable but the camera is not recognized. I want to connect my video camera to my Macbook Air I have a video camera that uses a Firewire cable. I want to connect it to my 2017 13" Macbook Air; it does not have a Firewire port. It only has a Thunderbolt port which I believe is a Thunderbolt 2 port although I can't find that noted anywhere in the specifications. Which adapter do I use? Does it have to be an adapter that matches the Thunderbolt number of my Macbook Air? Apple sells a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter but the requirements for use specific OS v10.7.4 or later. I am running OS v10.12.6. Will that work? Will this one adapter work? or do I need two adapters? How do I know whether the Firewire cable I have is 400 or 800?

While its technically possible to do that, there's no real reason to.

You will need a whole set of adapters (4 at least) to get it to connect, and it will still be an obsolete, low quality webcam.

I would suggest you just a buy new cheap web cam instead, it will be easier to use, and will ave vastly superior image quality than the iSight camera.
