Does not support permanent version storage

I use Pages only occasionally. I was a little surprised when I tried to save a document and got this message

First, I don't know and am only guessing at what permanent version storage is. I was trying to save to my Documents folder on an internal system drive. Where would one save a document for this to work, whatever this is?

Thanks very much.

Have you given Pages Full Disk Access? Are you using Pages on an external booted drive and attemping to save the document to the documents folder on the internal drive? Are you booted in Safe Boot mode? Pages remembers the last folder location it previously saved to, and will automatically use that location until changed.

I haven't encountered this error ever, though once in a great while others will post it. I don't have a solution based on my lack of experience with this dialog.
