Determine which Adjustment Layer was used?

I received a library from a producer in which he used an Adjustment Layer, but he didn't remember where he got it from and isn't really savvy enough to dig around in the Motion Templates folder. It shows as a missing title for me because I don't have the same one. Of course this is not a problem because I just added a new Adjustment Layer and copied his effects to it.

I've run into this before with missing plugins/titles that FCP can't display any info about and the only way I could determine what was used was to export an XML for hints in the plugin name or file path.

I thought I might be able to figure out which Adjustment Layer he used by exporting the project XML to get a little more identifying info about it, but it's pretty generic:

Unless I look through his Motion Templates folder and maybe through the .moti file, there isn't really a way to determine which one, true?

The Adjustment Layer "Adjustment Layer" is most likely the one made by Alex Gollner ("Alex4D").

Got Motion? Just make your own and save it ("Adjustment Layer") to a Category named Adjustment Layer. Should work. Any title named Adjustment Layer should (will) work.

HOWEVER, you may have to go into the fcpxml file and change src="file:///Users/auser - to your current user account, like:

file:///Users/<yourCurrentUserAccount>/Movies/Motion%20Templates.localized/...

And have *an* Adjustment Layer Title available in the designated Category.

If you don't want an "Adjustment Layer" category used, then you can change that information in the xml as well to point to a category of your choosing.

The problem, if you have to change the src, will be getting the project back to the original client, so keep the information you swap out handy.

When dealing with fcpxml, be very careful of the formatting of the text in the file. [Tabs, newlines, spaces as "%20", etc...]

Always back up any fcpxml file before you make alterations to it.

Thanks Fox. It doesn't look like it's the Alex4D one - after installation it reports itself in the browser and timeline as Alex4D Adjustment Layer. BTW, "auser" was my simple redaction of the username for posting here. If this adjustment layer becomes an ongoing thing with this producer and I can't physically inspect his MBP, thank you for the great suggestion to just make one in Motion named the same. As always, you rock!
