Unable to mirror iMac to smart LG TV

I have repeatedly tried to connect my Intel processor iMac (Sonoma 14.2.1) to my LG Smart TV in order to watch international rugby matches from Europe and totally without success. So far none of the many articles I have come across have solved the problem. When I open the Control Centre and select Screen Mirroring it does not show my TV as I had assumed it would. Both the TV and the computer are on the same network. I had thought my VPN might be interfering and I have tried connecting with this switched both on and off. I have even tried a few commercial programs, such as Miracast and again without success.

I know there must be a solution to this and any help anyone can provide would be very gratefully appreciated.

You need to look on your TV's specifications and see if it supports AirPlay. If it does not then you may want to follow the steps in Use your TV as a display with Mac - Apple Support to make physical connection. Also, verify with the provider of the Rugby game that they allow AirPlay, not all content is allowed by their providers.

Good luck!
