MacBook Pro has black screen with gray vertical lines

I opened up my MacBook Pro this morning and my screen is black with vertical lines that are gray. I’ve turned the computer off and on but it still comes on with the screen. Is it just the screen? Do I need a replacement?

Well you have a hardware issue yes.

These Vertical artifacts are almost always a problem with the display itself.

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment
