MacBook Pro 16" M3 2023 UK keyboard weird behaviour when typing € and #

I've seen this question has already been asked and not properly answered. The problem is NOT app specific. On Chrome, TexEdit or anything else :

  • option + 2 gives ™ , while shift+2 gives @ as expected and option+shift+2 gives the wanted €.
  • Furthermore, option + 3 gives £ while shift + 3 gives #, which is the other way around from what is expected (I'm happy I've found this last one, coding without # is very unconvenient).

Shift + 3 for # looks like a mix up with Australian layout, but option+shift+2 for € doesn't.

My keyboard is set up on English UK.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 14.0

Could you double check for us what you have on the list at system settings > keyboard > text input > edit > input sources? You should have only one item on the list over at the left, and the name of that item should be "British". Use the minus button to remove anything else.

("UK English" is the name of a Spelling dictionary, but not used for a keyboard layout as far as I know)
