Advice on upgrading MacBook Pro from macOS Mojave to latest macOS

I'm currently running Mojave 10.14.1 on a 2018 Macbook Pro and am wondering if I should upgrade my OS to the newest version. 2 concerns: 1) I won't be able to open some older files if I upgrade, which already seems to be happening with some old MS word files, and 2) I can't run the newest Filemaker pro (where I have a big mailing list and database of art collectors) without the update. I'm interested to hear any advice regarding upgrading or not. Thank you.

It would be a huge jump from 10.14.x to to 10.15, 11, 12, 13, or the latest 14.

For certain I'd clone to an external Drive or SSD, make certain that booted & ran fine, then try an upgrade.

Carbon Copy Cloner seems to accomplish it...
