Information on upgrading to Latest OS for MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)

To whom it may concern,

I’m finally considering in upgrading my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) to either Big Sur macOS 11 or Monterey macOS 12. Currently, I’m running macOS Sierra 10.13 on my MacBook. Here are some questions that I have:

  1. Can my MacBook be upgraded to either Big Sur macOS 11 or Monterey macOS 12?
  2. Which should I choose?
  3. In the process of upgrading my OS, will I loose my files and apps saved on my MacBook? (My MacBook has been recently backed up using Time Machine)
  4. Will I loose my Safari saved internet pages and Google Chrome saved internet pages during the upgrade?

Thank you very much for your help, I greatly appreciate your assistance in this matter.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.12

The highest it can go is macOS 12 Monterey. Since macOS 11 is no longer supported, go for Monterey.

You shouldn't lose any data, but make sure your backup is current before you start. Things can and do go pear-shaped sometimes.

I assume you mean your saved favorites/bookmarks when you refer to "saved internet pages". If you're syncing them with iCloud / google it shouldn't be a problem.

You may very well run into application compatibility issues with your 3rd party apps. Check before proceeding and be prepared to upgrade or replace them.
