apple superdrive does not show in finder

Macbook pro (2021) Apple M1 running Ventura

The Macbook Air I have used to do my taxes, is too old to upgrade to the OS release required by this years TurboTax

My new Mabook Pro, does not work - I can plug in the superdrive, and if I look in system report the drive is there and can see it has the TurboTax dvd inserted:

None of the ethernet adapters I have - which worked fine with all previous macbooks, work with this one either.

But nothing shows up in Finder

or in /Volumes

I see lots of folk have reported similar problem in recent years - with no apparent solution.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 13.6

Finder>Settings>Sidebar

Verify in your Finder window you have Locations open, if not move move your mouse to the right side to reveal the carrot—spin it open

On the desktop Finder>Settings>General

Thanks, but I have all those settings checked as you showed.
The DVD does not show in Finder, though System Report shows it is recognized.
And with the Eject button on menu bar, it does eject as expected.
