I get a colored spinning wheel on my iMac, what can I do?

I get a colored spinning wheel of death when opening some apps, Mac slower than it should be. I checked online and found a recommendation to download and use EtreCheck. Have results-now what?


I downloaded and installed EtreCheck and have report. Help!

That said I'll bet a nickle that slow performance on a 21.5" 4K iMac is caused by the slow 1TB HDD that shipped as the baseline drive option. The solution is to reinstall MacOS onto an SSD. Lucky you, external SSDs work just fine. Pick anything big enough for your files and then follow these instructions: Use an external SSD as your startup disk … - Apple Community.
