why are my airpod pros saying they’re not verified apple

when my brother got me these he tested them out and they keep making the chiming noise and when i “reset” them a thing popped up saying they might not be genuine apple airpod pros.

iPhone 14, iOS 17

If you've received the message "unable to verify the AirPods," it's not possible to remove it. If you're seeing this message, your AirPods are counterfeit and will not function properly.
