Acrobat Digital ID keeps appearing
A few days ago, I was asked to digitally sign a PDF form and I had to create a Digital ID in Acrobat. I made the stupid mistake of allowing Acrobat to store that Digital ID in my Mac Keychain Store (Acrobat’s obtuse verbose did not help) and now I have in Apple Mail the irritating option of digitally sign ALL of my emails associated with the Digital ID. I knew the moment I clicked OK that I did something pretty bad…
After a few searches on the Internet, I found out that I could delete the “certificate” using Keychain Access. But it seems that it just comes back from the dead almost every day now. At first, I thought it was because I opened up Acrobat but I just realized that the certificate simply reappeared out of the blue a few minutes ago, even if Acrobat is not opened.
Is there a sure-fire, permanent and definitive way to delete that nasty Digital ID once and for all? I’m almost considering formatting my Mac and reinstalling it “scorched-earth-style”, but I’m not even sure that it will really help.
I don’t want that Digital ID anymore and I sure don’t want it to creep up every day even though I thought I got rid of it.
I’ve included in this post two screenshots, one from Mail (version 16 for macOS Sonoma 14.3.1) showing the Digital Signing icon (disabled for now in Mail) and another from Keychain Access where we can see the never-dying culprit.
