M2 family chips struggling with decoding ProRes 4444 with alpha under Ventura and Sonoma

Hello,

For a TV show I have a ProRes 4444 with alpha HD file that I am using since 6 years, inside QT, FCPX, Premiere Pro, etc...

Under Intel and M1 chips the file playback is fine and can use it properly under Monterey, Ventura and Sonoma.

On M2 chips family, (i tested them all before writing this) it's an other story. The playback shows black boxes and as the alpha becomes predominant black boxes multiplies as playback goes.

I once read that something like that was happening when M1 chips came out and was fix by an MacOS update. I think it's back now but for the M2 family.

Anyone got a problem with ProRes 4444 + Alpha playback on M2 family chips?

thanks,

Michael

I have the same problem with Mac Studio M2 Ultra / Macbook Pro 16" M3 Max and iMac M3

May be it's a bug in the ProRes hardware decoder after M2?

And I found the problem only exist with bit depth 8bpc, when I export to ProRes 4444 in 16bpc the black box gone.

It's really annoying since my company have tones of clips export with 8bpc format.
