M1 Studio Max - high pitch sound when on

I just purchased an M1 Studio Max and while I love the machine, there is an incessant high pitch sound that is present when it is running. I can play music over it, but my M1 MacBook Pro makes no sound and my old Intel Core i9 iMac was never noisy unless I pushed it enough for the fans to run.


Anyone have advice? This is not something I expected from this machine.

There was a lot of activity on that subject when that Model Mac came out. Suggestions included Coil whine from the power supply, bad design of the chassis fans, wonky stresses on the processor, inadequate testing of 240 Volt systems, and many conspiracy theories.


And the winner is...

.. it makes a Whisting noise, like a flute.

Cover up half an inch of the grille at one corner or the other and it's gone:
