Screen Auto Lock is grayed out on iPhone

For ages I've had Settings > Display and Brightness > Auto-Lock set at 10 minutes.

Having done absolutely nothing to reset it, it is now set at 2 minutes, and the word Auto-Lock is grayed out - meaning I can't access the setting to change it back. I've tried sliding the "Lock/Unlock" switch from on to off and back to on with no effect (which doesn't surprise me).

What steps can I take to "ungray" the setting label and enable it to be reset?

Thank you for any advice.

[slaps head] I just noticed that the charge icon is yellow. I looked up what that means - turns out I had touched the "low power" mode switch. That in turn switched off the "auto-Lock" feature, for whatever reason Apple made it that way. Switched to regular power mode while charging and my problem went away.

PS: I have no idea how to mark this "solved" as that option seems to have disappeared.

Thank you for your earlier suggestion, though. Have a great 2024.

iPad auto-lock will be fixed at two minutes if you have enabled Low Power mode:

Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode - set to OFF

If the problem persists after disabling Low Power Mode, perform a forced-restart of your iPad:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

You might also check that Date & Time and TimeZone are also correctly set for your iPad - as these settings are known to cause various functional issues if incorrectly configured:

Settings > General > Date & Time
