Can't delete emails in my junk folder on my MacBook Air

About 2 weeks ago I tried to delete the emails that were in my junk folder on my MacBook Air, but I couldn't. They continued to remain. There were/are about 20 of them. I have been able to delete permanently emails that have subsequently shown up in the junk folder. I have not encounter the same problem on my iPhone or iPad. Any ideas why this happens and how to get rid of these indelible junk emails?

No, that’s not the problem. These 20 or so emails, which are also a lighter color, can’t be deleted no matter what I do. All the subsequent emails coming into my junk folder can be deleted, going into my trash folder. When I select all the emails in the junk folder and then hit delete, those 20 will disappear for a second and then reappear right where they were - in the junk folder. As I said, the newer emails will be deleted.
