how do I turn on IR on apple tv remote

I am trying to control the volume on my Yamaha receiver. When I go though the settings on my apple tv there is no option for IR.

My other Apple tv has an IR setting. How do I find the setting? Both Apple tvs have the latest updates installed.

Go to Settings > Remotes and Devices and scroll down to the "Home Theater Control" section. Ensure "Control Receivers and TVs" is on and under that setting there should be a volume control section. Within there, you can teach the Apple TV a remote you want it to control. Hope this helps. One more thing I would like to add is that if you use a universal remote (Ex: Logitech Harmony) to control your Apple TV and other devices, make sure to turn off the "Control Recievers and TVs" Setting. Hope this helps.

Settings﹥Remotes and Devices﹥Volume Control﹥Receiver via IR

(Settings﹥Remotes and Devices﹥Control Receivers and TVs may be on or off; doesn’t matter for IR volume control. That setting is for CEC, which is about non-IR things, like wake-sleep other devices following the Apple TV box, and set active HDMI input, if supported.)
