Issues with iOS 17.3.1

Hi, so yesterday I updated my iPad Air (4th Gen) to iOS 17.3.1.

After updating, I noticed that when opening Chrome, or X(Twitter), it would freeze almost immediately and then forcibly restart itself. I also had this issue with Safari and the App Store but it was less frequent and only when I tried to search something. The issue with Safari and the App Store has stopped, but Chrome and X(Twitter) continue to not work. I have tried many things to fix this, like restarts, force restarts, deleting the app and re-downloading it; yet nothing has worked. I’m thinking maybe it is something to do with the update?

If anyone can help, I’d really appreciate it.

If problems persist after performing a forced restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings - after which you will need to restore your data from a backup:

Me, too! So I did some experimenting because this problem with freezing was happening in several apps (Calendars 5, app store, browsers, anywhere that I had a search dialogue or a data entry field), and I found that shutting off my bluetooth keyboard and restarting the app had different results. I did try to forget device and reconnect, but this did not solve the issue. Only using the onscreen keyboard seemed to get me past the freezing behavior. Not sure if this will help you at all, but it has helped me somewhat.

very similar issues for me. iPad M1 Pro, and as soon as I updated to 17.3.1 Safari started freezing, as well as any other browser I’ve tried, also email, and other apps that require internet connectivity—I have tried disabling private relay, deleting and reinstalling apps, tweaking Safari settings… nothing fixes it, and it’s incredibly annoying. I have to close and re-open my browser several times every time it freezes, and I lose all my tabs, and I never had any problems before the update.

Same here I just want rid of the update. My phone was fine before now the passcode page locks me out even when I haven’t tried to log in and apps keep throwing me out saying session ended and then won’t recognise me. I’m so frustrated. I won’t be updating again auto in future.

further update I now can’t log into Facebook or Instagram it’s acting as if I don’t exist and these are my business accounts that I promote on. No content is available it’s as if it has all be lost and I’m at the set up page. Help!! 😳

I updated to the new update and I can’t connect to mobile Internet or wifi properly. I can’t use apps that require connectivity. Can someone fix this! It’s frustrating!

WiFi/Internet connection difficulties are usually an indication that your device does not have a routable IP Address - your IP Address usually being assigned by DHCP. When problems occur, your iPad may only have a self-assigned link-local IP address that begins 169.254.x.x.

You can verify your DHCP-assigned IP Address from settings:

Settings > WiFi > [Your WiFi Network / SSID] - tap the blue “i” icon - [IPv4 Address] IP Address

If you have a VPN App or profiles installed, or a security/AV/firewall App such as Norton, these may be interfering with DHCP and preventing your device from obtaining a valid IP Address for the WiFi network to which you are attempting to connect. The resolution is usually simple; if installed, you may only need to temporarily disable or remove the Security App and/or VPN.

DHCP is frequently used to automatically obtain an IP Address. Until your iPad has a valid IP Address to connect to your network, you will not have an internet connection. Disabling or removing VPN and/or the offending security App should allow DHCP to operate normally - allowing connection to your network and the internet.

If this resolves your issue, the VPN and/or security App can be reinstated after the connectivity problem has been resolved.

If you continue to have difficulties, check to see if your iPad is using the WiFi Private Address feature. This feature is intended to provide additional privacy and security when using “public” (untrusted) WiFi networks.

Settings > WiFi > [Your WiFi Network / SSID] - tap the “i” icon - Private Address

The Private Address feature is largely unnecessary for your home WiFi network; if enabled, Private Addressing can cause issues if specific MAC addresses are expected by your WiFi Router. You may need to disable this feature - and can be enabled or disabled for each individual network.

  1. My iPhone 15 plus had been trying to do the update for a couple of days and said it would do it last night so I decided to hit the install now. Worst mistake I ever made. My phone is now locked. Whenever I try to get into the phone to put code to unlock main screen I can't. It doesn't recognize the screen is being touched. I have tried to hard reset so many times without success. It also doesn't recognize it being plugged in to charge. Have to use charging pad to just charge. Never had any issues until this update. I use my phone for work purposes to clock in and do nursing notes and now thanks to this update I can't even do that. Apple needs to fix issues real fast and those of us that have been effected by this update should be compensated for the lost use of our electronic devises because while they are not working we are still have to pay our carriers for the service/plans that we have for a non-working device. Someone messed up big on this update and should have to answer for their mistake.

after my iphone got automatically updated, it’s no longer accepting my homescreen passcode! I kept trying until it got to try after one hour then i left it for like a day not trying; then, just wanted to give it another try, i typed the passcode and it got unlocked! Then it went back to the same problem… my correct home-screen passcode is being denied.. This is a big lag actually i dont want to reset my phone for such a problem i am not part of.. i hope i can get help and by the way, anyone facing this replay
