How to optimize RAM usage on upgraded MacBook Pro

After upgrading my 2.5 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7 MacBook Pro is experiencing low RAM performance, overheating, laggy connectivity over the web, CPU freezing, and tremendous loss of battery life.

Anyone else experiencing this after upgrading?

Upgrading from what you do not say... have you shut down and restarted more than once since your "upgrade"?
