Spinning ball of death appears too often on my new iMac.

After becoming the proud owner of a iMac 2023, I find that the spinning ball appears much more than it did on my 2015 MacBook Air. It is rather concerning for such a new machine. Any ideas please?

iMac 24″, macOS 14.3

Thank you.

1. 'rm' opens up to show:

jp.co.canon.ij.rp.photoservice.webinstaller.plist Should I delete it? My printer is a Canon.

2. Toolkit came with my Seagate Lacie external drive (I have it running constantly). I have never used it and don't know what it does. I clicked on your link and it takes me to their website. How would I find out about 'Mirroring or additional backup options'? Do I need it even? I don't want to delete it as I don't want to create havoc with the Lacie. Again your advice would be great.

Also I see on a link that I was sent that advocated not using such a drive as an external drive/Lacie, as in Timemachine is enough. But I thought it best to have an exteranal copy especially when I go on vacation. Again, what is your advice?

To be honest when I formated the Lacie I only wanted 'Helen's Lacie'. But somehow I ended up creating 'Backups of iMac' which are empty and I would like to be able to delete them, but someone in apple community advised not to delete backups as it messes with the Lacie. And to be honest I find messing with such things a bit hairy as I don't want to muck up the Lacie.

3. Re: family tree maker software - I only got the Lacie to back up my Trees/media, as I take the Lacie on vacation and didn't want my imac to go on fire! I don't save my Trees to icloud as in the past icloud was problematic and the apple help line advised to not use icloud to store them. Again, what do you do/think? I did have a macbook air recently and did take it on hols, but can't do that with an imac.

Look forward to your reply.

Mirroring an Apple Silicon Computer is not possible.

It would involve Opening the  Sealed and Read Only Volume that can not be opened by the User nor by Third Party Applications. Period

If one means making a Clone of the drive onto the External Drive.

As the Drive presently has 3 Volumes already existing on the drive

One would have to removed the Three Volume making the Drive empty of ALL Data

Then use Carbon Copy Cloner of possible Shirt Pocket SuperDuper to make a Clone of the drive

Even at that, Cloning the Drive and making the Clone Bootable on Apple Silicon Drives can be problematic

Just two cents here in the interest of clarity
