How to restore missing playlists after Syncing phone to iTunes on Mac

I recently synced my phone to Itunes on my laptop. Many of my playlists disappeared and the settings on my laptop said (last 6 months). I did not change this and want to change it back. Apple support was no help and failed to call me back.
