How to set up my Seagate One Touch to MacOS Catalina

Trying to link my Seagate One Touch with Password to my MacOS Catalina 10.15.7. I'm a senior, not fancy into technology, just want to double save my pictures, videos and documents, and also free some memory on my computer (always running out). How do I answer the question about Time Machine? I'd hate to oops and get stuck because I chose wrong options. And other recommendations or tips as I set up the One Touch? I regret purchasing this external drive - it sounded nice, but I should have bought one preset for Macs only. Would appreciate any help.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.15
