My iMax is running very slow at startup. It takes from between 5-10 minutes to get to the login screen. Once logged in, it takes abothe 5-10 minutes befor I can use any programs. I read about booting from an external hard drive as well as replacing the internal one. Would this help? Is there another problem?
I ran a EtreCheck report. Results included.
You're getting low on free disk space and it is affecting the Write speed.
Ideally you need to keep a minimum of about 10-15% or 100-150GB of Free Space for macOS to work in.
This Free Space is especially important with Fusion Drives because the HDD gets slower and slower as it fills.
How long has this problem existed?

I've had a lot of that happening to me today. Have posted on some only to find out it was answered twice a half hour ago!
I used Drive DX. Reports are attached. I don't see anything wrong in the reports. It's hard to say when the problem started It's just slowly become intolerable. Maybe one year?

What's the difference between free and available? When I look in finder, it says there's more than 100gb available.
