Here's how to remove the useless, annoying forward + back arrows on desktop PDF icon previews

Another community member shared most of the solution for how to remove the arrows for PDF icon previews on the desktop. I wanted to clarify something but the thread was closed.

As he said, the arrows are annoying because they don't "leave much room for grabbing the icon to move it. The icon is too small to see the pages in the PDF anyway, so I just want those arrows gone. There should be a setting somewhere but I can't find it."

The solution seems to be under the "show view options" menu for the desktop (right-click or two-finger click on the desktop to bring up the menu). You'll find a "show icon preview" box that is likely checked. Now, what he said was to uncheck the box to solve the problem.

However: When you uncheck the box, all your pngs and other files on your desktop no longer show any previews. So that's not good. But what I found was that — when you RECHECK the box to "show view options" — all the previews are back but the annoying, useless arrows are gone. So that's what I hoped would be helpful to people.

This seems like too much coffee, squinting, and OCD to configure every boot cycle.

When I pass a mouse pointer over a multipage PDF, it is to double-click on it to open it, not conceive ways to make the Finder imposed arrows vanish by shrinking the icon size. Finder will present arrows on some Pages documents too that are more than a page in length, but not Word or RTF documents.

My icons are at the near-smallest view but the arrows were still there. I had not tried re-booting yet and TBH don't do it that often. But appreciate the context that I may have to jump through this hoop again when I do it next. I only use icon view on the desktop. I honestly don't understand why they would be there by default when there is no way you're paging thru a tiny tiny icon to look at the pages. It seems like it should be smarter than that.
