my apple pay is being declined in Europ

I am on vacation in The Netherlands and my Apple Pay is being declined 80% of the time. It takes so long on the bus to connect to the system that I have checked in but not out! So it is more than inconvenient, it’s now expensive. I changed credit cards, updated everything, without helping. When I call for help it’s in Dutch and I only speak English. The calls always get disconnected.

any thoughts on what might be happening? Any suggestions?

While this admittedly sounds like a “dodge” it’s NOT.

Apple is not involved in the execution of ApplePay transactions. Period.

It’s all handled betweee the merchant’s bank, your bank, and the payment networks (e.g. Visa, MasterCard, …)

Resolving any processing difficulties would have to be resolved thru your card’s issuer

It looks like your problem is with your card issuer. Did you let them know you'd be traveling out of the country?
