Thanks for the info, but is there no way to do this without an external app? I mean, how did Apple plan to handle this - I'm sure many many users have this problem.
I'll try with Bartender but I'm pretty uncomfortable as to the set of permissions it asks for...
Apple does not plan for a lot of Right Side icons.
Well the hardware engineers may not be taking into consideration all the software issues. Left hand not knowing what the Right hand is doing, and how that will impact every user in every situation.
As I said, you can find some 3rd party solutions besides Bartender, some of them free. I just choose Bartender after trying to get away with free, and decided the $15 was worth it.
And I use 2 external monitors (one 32" 4K) which is not a problem, but I also still use my laptop screen and if I turn off Bartender, I have some thing that looks like this:
This is 32" 4K monitor

This is the same menu bar on the 14" MacBook Pro (the place where this list of icons ends, is where the Notch begins:

And this is the exact same 14" MacBook Pro with Bartender running

This is the 14" MacBook Pro with the Bartender drop down menu of all the additional icons. I just click on a blank spot on the menu bar, and the drop down appears.

We are just users, same as you. We cannot tell you exactly why something is the way it is.
But in this case, we can give you some suggestions on how to have lots of icons on the Right side.
