how do i delete photos from a folder instead of from library?

i'm trying to delete a lot of pictures from folders instead of my gallery because it helps me delete more efficiently, but it only gives me the option to remove from folders. is there a way to entirely delete photos from the folders?

You are asking about deleting photos from albums, not folders, right?

I am asking, because folders can only hold albums or subfolders, but not directly photos. In Photos we can only add photos to albums, not to folders.

Are you asking about Photos for Mac or Photos on an iPhone or iPad? And which system version do you have installed?

I love Richards suggestion for the iPhone, but it would really help to know which device and system version you are asking about.

We can't tell if you're using a Mac or an iPhone. Old Toad told you about a Mac, but there's no ⌘ key on a phone. So I'm going to suggest a crazy solution for you:

Got the album and select the pictures you want to delete. Then with the more (...) button choose "Adjust Date & Time." Then set the year to 2030. (Sounds like science fiction!) You can do this with pictures in other albums. Then go to Library, and all the pictures you selected will be at the bottom! Select and delete. The will stay in Recently Deleted for a month so that you can change you mind. (Don't think you won't change your mind!)

I tried this with a couple of pictures and thought it worked OK. If you are doing this on a phone, let us know if it works for you...

I was kinda proud of that! You had suggested people could mark pictures with the heart for stuff like this (I use a special keyword for a temporary mark on the Mac) but I'd been thinking about how you could mark pictures on a phone without having to commandeer the "favorite" icon-- using the adjust date isn't quite the same, but for many things it works. And if you're keeping the pictures rather than deleting them, you can just revert after moving them.
