Apple TV Resolution not supported

Somehow, it seems my kids changed the resolution settings on our Apple TV box. Now my tv only shows a message that says MODE NOT SUPPORTED Resolution not supported. Change the resolution of the external device.

move tried the advice from an old post from 2017 that says to hold down the menu button and one of the volume buttons. This doesn’t seem to be working. Also, I am using the newer remote that has a back button instead of a menu button.

If your Apple TV isn't working, won't turn on, or shows a black screen - Apple Support

Check Video resolution
Use your Apple TV remote to change video resolutions.
* For Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD, hold Menu (or Back) and Volume Down for 5 seconds. Apple TV will switch to a new resolution every 20 seconds. Select OK to choose a resolution or Cancel to quit.

- For the current models, the button combination is different than for the legacy models (pre-2015).

- The Menu button and the Back button work exactly the same.
