Macbook Air M2 2022 - Speakers suddenly went bad

I've owned my Macbook Air (M2, 2022) for less than a year. I don't blast the sound on music, movies, or anything and usually keep the sound on it pretty low (3 to 5 bars). Everything was normal with the laptop until the other day. Suddenly, when I was playing a YouTube video, the sound became raspy -- totally out of the blue. Now everything sounds distorted. It's a little better when I move the balance all the way to right speaker, but I can still hear it. I restarted the machine but it made no difference. I have an appointment with the Genius Bar tomorrow.

Has this happened to anyone else recently?

Nobody has replied to this post, but I wanted to report on what has transpired. I took my Macbook Air to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store. They ran a diagnostic, which showed nothing wrong with the speakers. But when I played a couple of random YouTube videos for the tech, he agreed that the speakers sounded raspy and bad. He said that they'd replace the speakers. I had to wait a few days for them to get the part. I'll be scheduling the repair this week.

I picked up my Macbook Air today. The speakers are replaced and sound normal now. Hopefully the problem won't repeat itself. Fortunately my Mac is under warranty until mid-2026, so it was a free repair.
