Remove and reinsert SIM card to keep using FaceTime

I have switched providers keeping my phone number but keep getting iPhone messages to remove and reinstall my SIM to use iMessages and FaceTime. I have done that and checked phone number in settings but the message has reappeared. I have had a series of SIMS whilst away which may have contributed? I see others have experienced this but I can’t find a solution. Using iPhone 13 and iOS 17.3.1

Even When you change provider while keeping the phone number the same you need to activate iMessage and FaceTime again for two reasons.

  1. The new provider needs to enable an SMS plan on your SIM
  2. The new provider may not be on the list of wireless carrier articles

To activate iMessage and FaceTime using your Phone number

  1. First, check to know whether you have an SMS plan enabled for at least One SMS*** with your carrier. Contact your Carrier (Cellular Service Provider) the agency that issued the SIM to you
  2. If your iPhone is used with a carrier not found in the wireless carrier articles, make sure you can send and receive international SMS. (One international SMS*** Only)
  3. If you can't turn on or sign in to iMessage or FaceTime - Apple ...

*** You may not have an SMS plan (Domestic & International) enabled by your carrier for the SIM/eSIM that you use on your device. Apple Inc does not provide SMS services.

I recall other users posting that “Reset Network Settings” corrected their similar issues.

Be aware that doing so will also clear any saved SSIDs and associated passwords, so “be ready” before attempting.

See Para 7 of below article for steps (disregard that it’s a “WiFi” article … the reset steps are the same)
