how do i back up my dual boot macbook air

I purchased a new MacBook Air with expensive software pre installed. When I migrated my old computer data to it, it offered me 2 choices, overwrite all data or create a dual boot system. I chose the dual boot system but I don't know if both will be updated with time machine or if I need to treat each side as a computer and back up each separately. Seems pretty simple but I don't want to wipe out either side by doing it wrong.
