LOGIC PRO: TAKE FOLDER / Cannot change the gain on an audio clip?

Hello everyone!

First time here, please apologize my english, it's my second language.

I really need help here. I'm at the end of several projects and I've been experiencing these bugs since I have my new Mac Mini M2.

I think my first mistake was to migrate from Mac Mini Intel 2020 to my new Mac Mini M2 Pro. I updated all the plugins afterwards, but it seems that that didn't fix everything.

The majority of my sessions were recorded and premixed on my Mac Mini Intel (without problems).

Note that I have almost the same setup on my 3nd computer (Macbook Pro 2020, Intel Core i7), same OS and same version of Logic Pro (Ventura 13.6.4, Logic 10.8.1) and that I have NONE of its problems.

Bug #1; TAKE FOLDER / Change the gain on an audio clip; the option to change the gain in the inspector window at the top left is no longer available? I instead get a "-" in place of "gain", when I select an audio clip inside a Take Folder.

Bug #2; TAKE FOLDER, delete audios. If I try to delete a single “take” or a single “audio clip” by selecting it, the entire Take folder is deleted.

I also have several other problems ;

-RECORDING NEW AUDIO, audio is sometimes out of sync (ahead of the rest of the session).

-UAD Satellite w/ USB-C port. I have 2 OCTO Satellite cards. I updated the UAD software. It happens that one of my cards disconnects randomly (red light on the front panel). This never happened with my previous computers

-RESTORE AUDIO UNIT. I regularly get this error message “An audio unit module has reported a problem that could cause system instability. Please exit and relaunch Logic Pro.

I have plenty of screenshots to demonstrate the various bugs.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Many thanks!

OMG....

Deleting the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file brought back the thake folder gain options! It fixed another bug (when I was trying to delete an audio clip in a take folder, it deleted the entire take folder)...

I'm really looking forward to opening more sessions tomorrow and making sure it wasn't just dreaming...! 😅

Thank you very much iCurtis, you help me a lot!

Wow, I've always used Logic Pro on M1 Macs and simply thought it was impossible to adjust the gain on regions contained in take folders! Playing around with the latest Logic, I noticed that if I choose the Gain Tool (in the tools menu) then you can adjust the gain after all and the gain field (along with others!?!) becomes available in the region inspector! Try this out and hopefully it works for you too!

Hi Lavergne, another thing I would suggest to try is, trying these actions (setting gain, deleting take regions) with the default Logic Pro settings. It could be some combination of settings that exposes these bugs. You could try the following:

* Option 1 - If you have lots of custom settings

You could create a new user account on your Mac and open Logic Pro. Logic Pro will be initialized to "fresh settings". You can use your normal user account afterwards and its settings will remain unchanged.

* Option 2- If you don't mind setting up Logic Pro's settings again

You can choose from Logic Pro's menu "Logic Pro->Settings->Reset All Settings Except for Key Assignments". Then test the actions that are currently buggy and reapply your custom settings checking to see if the problems manifest which will help you identify the problematic combination of settings.

Hi Lavergne,

I apologize, I looked a little deeper and I am actually able to set the gain for regions in Take Folders with my M1 Pro Mac. My mistake was that I using in quick swipe comping mode and no region was selected.

I notice you don't have the Quick Swipe Editing mode button showing in your screenshots:

I understand that there is at least one Logic Pro setting

that controls this ("Quick Swipe and Take Editing Click Zones"). Maybe try turning this setting off and then try selecting regions with the scissors icon shown and see if you can adjust the gain?

I wouldn't be surprised if it is a combination of settings that may be causing your issue. The latest version of Logic is quite buggy. For example, if you open most of the Tutorial files, the text in the Notes area doesn't display properly. This is the tip of the iceberg of the bugs I've seen and it has yet to be fixed since 10.8 came out in November.

Hello iCurtis! Thanks for your answer!

Please again, appologize my English.

Here, it's still doesn't work in a take folder...

I'm a little discouraged. I'm going to try to call Apple's support service, but these problems are slowing down my work flow considerably.

I slowly approach the switch to Cubase. 😅

Thanks!

Hello iCurtis!

Thanks again for your message!

I tried to enable and disabled the "Quick Swipe and Take Editing Click Zones", but it didn't make the "gain" fonction working. (Sorry my Logic is in French. That's maybe the problem"! 😄 I also restarted between changes.

So, when I select the "gain tool", I can see the little yellow line, but if I tried to change the value, it's just do nothing, it's stay on 0.0db.

Thanks again!

Hello iCurtis!

Thank you very much for taking the time to help me, this means a lot!

We have something here! The gain tool (and I see the Gain option on the inspector window) is working when I am in another User Account!!!

It still don't work in my Main Account. I've reset all the settings (Reset All Settings Except for Key Assignments), but I've the same bug.

Is there an option to do a deeper "reset"?

Many thanks!
