Drag and drop Apple Loops into the loops media browser is not working in Logic 12

After updating to Tahoe and Logic 12, I have lost the ability to drag and drop apple loops from my external drive into the loops media browser (Its been working for many years without issue in all of the other versions)

Steps I have tried:

  1. Reindexing
  2. Creating an alias to the external drive Apple Loops folder and reindexing
  3. Creating a symbolic link to the external drive Apple Loops folder and reindexing
  4. Manually adding the an alias link to the external drive to the users/library/Audio/Apple Loops folder then reindexing
  5. Manually adding the a symbolic link to the external drive to the users/library/Audio/Apple Loops folder then reindexing
  6. Deleting the /library/audio/Apple Loops Index/ and deleting all index files. Restarting logic and reindexing

Ive tried everything I know and it doesnt seem to pickup the Apple Loop folders that have been working for years

Any suggestions really appreciated

Have you tried moving the Apple Loops into a folder on your internal drive first, and then drag and drop into the Library? It seems that there are issues of LP12 with external drives for some reason. Sounds lost from ext hds, etc.

I just completed dragging and dropping approx. 6K loops into the Loop Library but only in small batches of 100 or less from a folder on the internal drive.

I don't know if that'll work but...

Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply. After importing from the internal drive did you manage to move them to an external drive? I really want them to be on the external drive as they are too big

No I didn't. I know we can move the .bundle file but I don't know how to move the "user loops" to an external.

When adding loops to the Loop Library within LP12, those loops are stored in your user library; ~Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops/SingleFiles. I tried even to just add the loops to this particular folder but they didn't show up in the Loop Library, HOWEVER, I realized that I never restarted LP12 when I did that. So, you might try that.

I copied over 6,375 loop .caf files (a few were untagged but still show up in the Library as "untagged loops" as shown in the screenshot).

I also, then, copied the Audio folder from above, and backed it up just in case they come out with another update that ends up deleting those files. It took a whole day. I don't want to do that again. =)

Just a note: I grabbed the loops from my LP11 Package Contents folder when I right-click on the LP11 app and choose Show Package Contents. Contents/Resources/AppleLoopsIndex, then did a search for ".caf", and then scrolled through the folder and Library side by side, and manually dragged and dropped.
