Microsoft Word very slow to let me type the document name in the save-as dialogue box.

When I temporarily moved the Microsoft word folder out of ~/Library/Containers to the desktop, it temporarily fixed the problem. There is no spinning ball or watch; when I try to type in the document hame, the cursor does not appear and/or typing does not do anything. After a while, cached characters appear. While it will not let me type in the document name, the <Save> button becomes unresponsive. This problem happened out of the blue a couple of weeks ago. I am worried that I will not be able to save at all a while ago. My Microsoft Word container contains 12.7 GB; I do not know what is in there. I have customised the ribbon but not done anything huge. I have written lots of documents. I occasionally use Endnote, which is also very slow.

I got rid of Clean My Mac (by putting it straight in the bing). I have done generic things to speed up my mac: reset some different types of memory RAM by holding down keys as I boot, for example. I have about 100 GB of room on my SSD. I have a 2019 MacBook Pro. Word is up to date and so is the Mac OS.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 14.0

If you simply moved your CleanMyMac icon to the bin, you didn't properly remove it, and its left behind some additional files that can interfere with your Mac.

Please check this uninstall article: How to Uninstall Clean My Mac. (Note that you may actually have to reinstall the app in order to uninstall it). Some of us here in this community refer to this app as BrickMyMac.

Indeed, this could be an issue with MS Word, as suggested by Tom Gewecke. Are you experiencing any other "sluggish" operations on this Mac? For example, does Excel do the same thing?
