Plug icon on battery when plugged in

Hi Apple Community,

I have been experiencing this issue on some occasions. For some reason, when i plug my MacBook in to charge, i get this charging icon and no charge. On most times, it will later switch to a lightning icon indicating that it is being charged, but sometimes not.

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to troubleshoot? Is this because i spilled water over my laptop?

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Shane

it says right there your battery needs service...

liquids and electronics do not mix— the issues tend to get worse over time not better.

Not only that, but if the laptop is powered off when the battery reaches 1%, the laptop will become unresponsive for 1-2 days and when i try to power it on, the laptop won’t power on at all. It has been happening for many times now

Speaking of, if the plug battery icon appears, i have to close all apps and leave it for 5 seconds, then the problem is fixed

Nothing you have added changes leroydouglas good advice above.

Your Mac is not a $20 toy that will charge (and over charge) whenever power is supplied. Substantial hardware and software are cooperating on charging in the best way, and plugged in is not necessarily actively charging. If you battery is already 80 percent charged, additional Charging may not be needed at this time.
