Messenger app is asking for permission to access stored credentials on MacBook Air
I downloaded Messenger on my MacBook Air. Now it's asking for permission to access stored credentials. How to resolve this issue?

It is insanely difficult to contact Facebook. Especially a phone number or a chat session. I do have an email address:
support@fb.com
Whether or not they'll respond to any query is unknown.
Thanks for your reply, John! It is impossible to talk to anybody at FB. Someone hacked my wife's FB account in January, changed the phone number, the email address, and the password. She followed all the suggestions/instructions given in the FB help page; but she wasn't able to make any changes to the account as the verify-codes from FB went to someone else. She tried to change the password following the directions suggested online just to run into the same issue where the account can't be verified. We tried so hard to resolve this major issue, including the hiring an IT person; unfortunately there's someone out there using her identity and we cannot do anything about it, just because we cannot talk to someone at FB. My wife is distressed, FB is ruining her life. I'm venting on this site hoping someone can help.
I understand. What you describe appears to be a form of identity theft which is disconcerting to say the least. It may even be illegal.
Give me a little while and I'll ask someone who may be more familiar with Facebook than I am. Shouldn't be difficult since I don't use it 🙂
Did the IT person you hired have anything useful to suggest? If so I'll pass along that information so you don't waste time doing the same things again.
Give me a little bit and I'll let you know if I come up with anything.
Thanks for following up, John!
The IT person, replicated all the attempts we had already performed and highlighted on the FB Help page, he couldn't regain access to the account either. He then asked for information about a trusted friend so he could log in with their credentials to try to get my wife's account back as a trusted friend. We were able to provide him with that information; unfortunately, he wasn't successful in getting the account back. A sad remark he made was: "I guess we need a hacker to get it back!"
I've never had Messenger demand access to my credentials. I just put it on my iPhone yesterday because we were going out and I had to keep an eye on a conversation. It just worked without bugging me for any kind of specific access. So, I have no idea what it's asking for, or why.
While I've heard of plenty of people getting scammed out of their own account, I haven't heard of folks having much luck getting back into their own account. The little bit I've read on it just now says if the crooks have changed the password, it's not easy to get it back.
Facebook says to use this page, and follow the steps from there. You may have already tried this, but it's all I have right now that may possibly help.
Perhaps you should consider contacting its developer for an answer to that question. Would that be the Facebook app?
Thanks for your support, Kurt! I have memorized that page and then some.... If I could only talk to someone at FB....
Kurt, we'll try again and again to contact FB at support@fb.com, who knows ... we might be lucky one of these days. Thanks for your help!
