Shortcuts stop running after first command

My shortcuts are running well when run from Shortcuts app.

the problem is when run by ask Siri.

Every Shortcuts that have always been worked well but now run successfully only first command, and then stop.

I’ve tried

  • delete a shortcut and create a new one
  • Refresh Siri & search setting
  • Delete Shortcuts app and reinstall it
  • restart iPhone

iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 17

iOs 17.5 fixes this issue! I really suggest to update to iOs 17.5 if you want to solve this issue.

I have been following this thread since the release of iOs 17.4 when bug started. iOs 17.4.1 did not solve the issue. But iOs 17.5 does!!

not-so-fun fact: I even contacted Apple Support twice in the past months asking if they were aware of the problem. They stated that it was working as designed..

Tonight my eyes watered when I tested Siri shortcuts with iOs 17.5 because they performed correctly! Finally, it executes again any shortcut even:

  • when phone is locked*
  • when shortcut contains more than one action
  • when shortcut contains actions to third party apps**
  • without the 'Dismiss Siri and continue' action!

*check that you allowed to run shortcut when iphone is locked in Shortcut > Privacy

**I am using a switchbot controlling curtains, amplifier and projector. They all now work again without having to unlock phone and click 'ok' for every action which is reeeaaally good!!!

Thanks to everyone that reported this issue!

Yes, some people say it only works if the phone is unlocked. But in any case, press the 3 dots on your shortcut, type in "Dismiss Siri and Continue". Once it's in your list, hold it and drag it to the top.

for example, I have a shortcut called "Living Room On". It used to look like

  1. Turn on living room lamp
  2. Turn on Apple TV

The only way for it to work for me now is to make it:

  1. Dismiss Siri and Continue
  2. Turn on living room lamp
  3. Turn on Apple TV

Hope that clarifies things.

I figured out how to make Siri stop listening. Put the “Dismiss Siri and Continue” at the top and as the last step add “Stop and Output” and for the output enter “go away”. I discovered this by actually telling Siri to “go away” and she said Ok and the bubble went off, so I just tried having the shortcut output it instead. It doesn’t vocalize the text, but Siri responds and the bubble disappears. I hope Apple fixes this soon. Of course we’ll have to change our shortcuts AGAIN.

I have exactly the same problem after updating to ios 17.4 on my iPhone 13 Pro. All shortcuts with one „action“ are running well, all with two or more stop after the first action. Very annoying. Especially if you are used to ask Siri to execute the shortcuts. It is really surprising how such an obvious defect is not detected during the beta phase!

This is extremely frustrating as most of my shortcuts are for home automation. When I turn some lights on and all other lights off when I go to bed. I have added dismiss Siri and continue but as everyone is saying you need to unlock your companion device.

For anyone that is just concerned with Siri to continue to listen which I believe is a great feature btw. Just say ‘thank you’ and Siri will reply ‘you’re welcome’ and stop listening for more commands.

I have some 2 step shortcuts that still work perfectly every time. The only one of mine that’s affected is a ‘good night’ one which has around 7 steps (some steps controlling multiple devices)

I test software for a living so I’m trying to isolate the type of step or sequence that might be tripping this up, but as yet haven’t found a common denominator. Hoping 17.5 will sort it too!

Thanks! Using your Siri workaround helps, but now after executing the voice command, Siri stays open and listens, and will never close unless I stop it by pressing the button on the right hand side of my iPhone again.

I thought, I might add the close Siri command at the end again, but that does not stop Siri from listening. Is there any command that would do that? I could not find any…
